“…It is only the beautiful memories that hurt
reminiscent of promises broken,
and the sweetness of heartfelt whispers
that will never again be spoken…”
Piercingly beautiful and sad, but also revealing so much strength and a positive self-affirmation. Thank you for sharing this with us! 🙂
(“Aufheben or Aufhebung [sublation] is a German word with several seemingly contradictory meanings, including “to lift up,” “to abolish,” “cancel” or “suspend,” or “to sublate.” The term has also been defined as “abolish,” “preserve,” and “transcend,)
I think the process with respect to this “replacing” may well involve something similar to “sublation,” and although we leave something behind for good (so we think), there is something that we preserve. The negation passes over into an affirmation. And poetry testifies to this:
“I don’t love her, that’s certain, but perhaps I love her.
Love is brief: forgetting lasts so long” (Pablo Neruda).
